Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a move for Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen.
The 28-year-old has struggled for first-team football and Arsene Wenger has admitted that he could leave this summer.
According to The Independent, Vermaelen's friendship with Robin van Persie could be a key factor in persuading the defender to move to Old Trafford.
Vermaelen made just 14 appearances in the Premier League for the Gunners last season.
