Schalke 04 have reportedly identified Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi as a potential replacement for Ozan Kabak.
Liverpool are said to be on the brink of signing Kabak on deadline day, initially on loan, while possessing the option to sign the centre-back on a permanent deal in the summer.
The transfer will only be completed if Schalke are able to secure a replacement before the closure of the transfer window.
According to ESPN journalist James Olley, talks are ongoing regarding a deal for Mustafi, who will be allowed to leave the Gunners on Monday.
Arsenal are keen to get the Germany international off their wage bill, rather than allowing the player to run down the final five months of his contract.
Liverpool had also been suggested as a possible destination for Mustafi before they turned their attention to Kabak and Preston North End's Ben Davies.
