Fabian Delph: 'I was bitten during pitch invasion'

Fabian Delph reveals that somebody bit him during the unsavoury pitch invasion that soured Aston Villa's home win over West Brom in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Fabian Delph has revealed that he was bitten during the pitch invasion that marred Aston Villa's 2-0 FA Cup win over West Bromwich Albion tonight.

Second-half goals from Delph and Scott Sinclair saw the Villans edge out their local rivals and advance into the semi-finals of the competition.

However, unsavoury scenes broke at Villa Park as hundreds of home fans stormed the field prior to the final whistle in an incident which the midfielder described as "very, very scary".

Albion boss Tony Pulis slammed the "mindless idiots" involved, but Delph can understand the reasoning behind the invasion.

Asked by BBC Sport what it was like to be caught up in the scenes, he said: "Very, very scary.

"My armband got nicked, someone got my left boot, but I could appreciate the relief the fans are feeling after a result like that.

"It was dangerous. Someone tried to take my boot off. People tried to kiss me and were biting me. It was scary."

Both sides ended the derby clash with 10 men, with Claudio Yacob and Jack Grealish both red carded late on for second bookable offences.
