Aston Villa have confirmed that they have suspended midfielder Barry Bannan as they carry out an internal inquiry.
The news has come following Bannan's arrest during the early hours of Sunday morning on suspicion of drink driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
"Barry Bannan has been suspended while the club carries out internal enquiries into allegations which arose last weekend," Villa manager Alex McLeish said in a statement. "He will not be available for this weekend's game at Sunderland."
The 21-year-old has won nine caps for Scotland.
