Stan Collymore urges Aston Villa: 'Appoint David Moyes'

Stan Collymore believes that appointing David Moyes, and not Remi Garde, would give Aston Villa the best chance of staying in the Premier League.

Former Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore has told the club's hierarchy that David Moyes is the man to get the club out of trouble.

Reports have suggested that Remi Garde has been made the number one target to replace Tim Sherwood, who was relieved of his managerial duties at Villa Park last weekend.

However, Collymore has claimed that the appointment of Garde would be a gamble, whereas the arrival of Moyes, who is currently in charge of Real Sociedad, would give Villa the best chance of staying up.

"If David Moyes came into Aston Villa tomorrow and was given the green light to spend decent money in January I'd tip the club I support to stay up," the 44-year-old wrote in The People.

"But if it's Remi Garde who is turned to then it will be a toss of a coin whether we do. Garde's only achievement in management was winning the French Cup in 2012. Sherwood was only 90 minutes from winning the English equivalent in May, so for my money that doesn't make Garde an upgrade.

"Moyes, unlike Garde, knows what it takes to manage in the toughest league in the world. He would come straight in and unite a dressing room that has become seriously disjointed."

Some speculation has stated that Garde could be in the crowd for Villa's clash against Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow night.
