Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has confirmed that former Manchester United assistant boss Steve Round will not join his backroom staff, despite reports suggesting otherwise.
The Premier League club were thought to be keen on hiring the 45-year-old, who worked with David Moyes at Everton and United.
However, Garde has decided not to go ahead with the appointment after having a discussion with Round.
"I know that Steve Round has been linked with the club but probably before I came here," the Daily Mail quotes Garde as saying. "I had a chat with Steve but I am happy with my staff.
"The club had a chat before I was linked then they told me they'd had this chat. I said it was no problem and I wanted to be polite. I didn't know Steve personally but I know his career so it was nice to have a chat with him but that was it."
Reginald Ray has become Garde's assistant at Villa, but the boss is still looking for another coach.
