Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has admitted that he was impressed with the impact of Jacob Ramsey and Carney Chukwuemeka during his side's 2-0 victory at Norwich City.
After a brilliant individual goal from Ramsey had put the visitors in front at Carrow Road, substitute Chukwuemeka supplied the assist for Ollie Watkins's close-range effort in the closing stages.
The pair are just two of several players to emerge from the Villa academy setup, and Gerrard has acknowledged that he was delighted with their performances against the Canaries.
Speaking to BT Sport, Gerrard said: "JJ will get the headlines but also Carney comes on and gets an assist.
"We wanted him to get around [Billy] Gilmour because he was getting more touches of the ball. He did a fantastic job out of possession and then rewarded himself with an assist.
When quizzed on Ramsey's goal, the Villa boss added: "As a midfielder, you can only applaud that kind of play. To run from deep, play the one-two, and show the power and composure to get into the box and actually unleash a shot with his weaker foot, surely that should be in the running for goal of the month."
Villa, who have now won four of their six games since Gerrard's appointment, progress into ninth position in the Premier League standings. body check tags ::
