Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan has spoken of captain Ron Vlaar's importance during the club's successful survival in this year's Premier League.
Villa finished the season 15th, five points above the drop zone, after a campaign that saw them dip into the bottom three on numerous occasions.
Guzan said that the return of Dutchman Vlaar in February after two months out injured was key to the club's survival.
"What he's brought to the team has been massive," American keeper Guzan told the club's website.
"He's a true competitor - a real warrior, a real fighter. You need that in the Premier League.
"He's very vocal and a real organiser. That's important in any team. Ron brings that to the table."
Meanwhile, Villa manager Paul Lambert has been full of praise for Guzan himself.
