Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert insists that Fabian Delph has enough quality to make Roy Hodgson's England squad if he maintains a fine start to the season.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has insisted that Fabian Delph's fine form this season deserves recognition from England manager Roy Hodgson.

Delph has been ever-present for Villa in the early weeks of the Premier League campaign, winning admirers with an all-action style in central midfield.

Lambert told the Birmingham Mail: "He's been excellent this year to be fair. He grew into it towards the end of last season, like everybody, and he's carried on this year.

"The big thing for me is he's injury-free, he trains every day. He's a kid who's a good guy to work with and the way he's playing his enthusiasm and his drive has been excellent. I'd be delighted if he got picked.

"I'd love him to get called up, even if he just got into the squad. For a young player when you're playing ever so well and you keep getting over-looked it's hard."

The 23-year-old will get another chance to impress Hodgson this afternoon when Villa visit in-form Hull City in the Premier League.
