Ross McCormack: 'Time at Aston Villa a disaster'

Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack has described his time at the club to date as "a disaster".

The 31-year-old moved to the Midlands side on a four-year deal in August 2016 following goal-laden spells in the Championship with Fulham and Leeds United.

McCormack failed to find his rhythm at Villa Park, however, and had a high-profile falling-out with Steve Bruce earlier this year, with the manager accusing him of skipping training sessions and "not being fit enough to play".

The Scotland international has since joined Australian side Melbourne City on a loan deal running until January and is hoping to use the experience as a way of rebooting his career.

"I'm not the kind of guy who wants to basically collect money and do nothing," McCormack told Fox Sports Australia. "I've always said I wanted to come to Australia or the MLS to play and I think it's actually a blessing in disguise that it's come this early, not when you're coming to the end and you can't make an impact.

"It's been a disaster [at Villa]. There's no two ways about it. I scored four goals and played something like 25 games. If you look at the five years before that I was averaging over 50 games a season and probably over 20 goals. I think most players have a dip in their careers, hopefully that was mine.

"I'm not a silly little boy now, I know there's a bit to prove. And I know what people will be thinking, because I've read it on my social media, that 'his attitude isn't great'. But I was club captain at Leeds, club captain at Fulham. If you've got a bad attitude you're not getting those honours. So my message is that I'm here to do things right."

McCormack could make his debut for his new side when the new A-League season begins this Friday.
