Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock has claimed that the team need to show their character if they are to ensure safety from relegation this season.
Alex McLeish's side lost 2-1 to Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday to leave them just three points clear of the relegation zone and Warnock admits that the side must fight for safety.
The former Blackburn Rovers full-back said: "It's not a nice situation to be in. We need fighters now.
"The youngsters are learning the hard way but it's not easy for the senior lads as well.
"It's a real test of character and we have to stand up and be counted now."
Villa face a local derby in their next fixture as they prepare to travel to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
