Aston Villa will be attempting to end a 76-year streak when they square off against Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

Aside from Manchester City, Villa are the form team in the Premier League right now having post five successive wins in the top flight.

The 3-0 victory over Newcastle United last weekend marked the first time in 25 years that they had achieved such a feat, and it is a result which has kept the club in the hunt for European qualification.

Unai Emery's side sit in sixth position in the standings, three points adrift of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur and six points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United.

The Spaniard will be fully focused on trying to record another maximum haul, one which would increase the pressure on the aforementioned two clubs who meet at St James' Park a day later.

However, Villa have the opportunity to break a Premier League record and end a 76-run to an end when they meet the Bees in West London.

Having scored versus Newcastle on April 15, Villa made it 18 successive league matches where they have netted since Emery's arrival, joining Norwich City's Mike Walker and Chelsea's Carlo Ancelotti in registering such a goalscoring streak upon the appointment of a new manager.

That Premier League record will be broken if Villa can find the back of the net at the Gtech Community Stadium, and that would also aid Villa's chances of a sixth successive win.

The West Midlands outfit have not recorded more than five triumphs in a row in the top flight since they posted seven successes during the 1989-90 campaign.

On the back of beating Brentford in the reverse fixture back in October, Villa would also register their first double over Saturday's opponents since 1946-47.

Nevertheless, the history books are in Brentford's favour with the club having defeated Villa in their last four meetings.
