John McGinn has signed a four-year contract extension at Aston Villa to keep him at the club until 2027.
The 28-year-old's previous deal was due to expire in 2025, but he has now put pen to paper on fresh terms that will keep him at Villa Park for a further two years beyond that.
McGinn was named as club captain by then-manager Steven Gerrard last summer, taking over the armband from Tyrone Mings, and has continued to be a key part of the team since the arrival of Unai Emery.
The Scotland international midfielder made 36 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring one goal and registering three assists in 34 Premier League games as Villa qualified for Europe.
In total, McGinn has made 183 appearances for the club since joining from Hibernian in 2018, scoring 17 goals and creating a further 26 in that time.
"Aston Villa is delighted to announce captain John McGinn has signed a new, long-term contract with the club," read a statement on Villa's official website.
"The midfielder's new deal will see him remain at Villa Park until 2027."
Villa are currently on their summer break, but will return to pre-season training next month before beginning the 2023-24 Premier League campaign away to Newcastle United on August 12. body check tags ::
