Aston Villa have failed in their attempt to sign free agent Dimitar Berbatov on deadline day, according to reports.
The 34-year-old was released by Monaco this summer at the end of the 18-month contract he signed when joining from Fulham in January 2014.
According to Sky Sports News, Berbatov held talks with Villa representatives at the Bodymoor Heath training ground but they never got close to reaching an agreement over his personal terms.
The former Bulgaria international had previously spent four years at Manchester United, and also played for Tottenham Hotspur, Bayer Leverkusen and CSKA Sofia.
