Aston Villa reportedly never offered a contract to outgoing Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, despite speculation suggesting otherwise.
Reports emerged on Friday claiming that the 35-year-old had rejected the chance to sign for Paul Lambert's side on a free transfer.
However, according to the Express & Star, while Villa did consider a move for the experienced defender, no official offer was made to the player.
Reports have claimed that Villa looked into Ferdinand's availability before signing Philippe Senderos on a two-year deal yesterday.
Ferdinand, who has been linked to Queens Park Rangers and Tottenham Hotspur, has suggested that he wants to continue his playing career after ending his 12-year association with United.
