BATE Borisov moved above Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League Group H standings with a 2-1 victory over their opponents at the Borisov Arena this evening.

The hosts took the lead through Dzyanis Palyakow's close-range finish on 19 minutes, and it got even better before the interval when Aleksander Karnitskiy added a second.

Aritz Aduriz did manage to pull a goal back for the Basque outfit, although BATE held out for all three points to return to winning ways.

Here, Sports Mole looks at who impressed during the 90 minutes in Belarus.

BATE BORISOV

Goal

Siarhei Chernik: Did not have an awful lot to do, but kept out substitute Markel Susaeta's long-range drive late on with a great save. (7/10)

Defence

Anri Khagush: Anonymous going forward, but stayed solid enough at the back with Bilbao having little joy out wide. (7/10)

Dzyanis Palykow: Set the tone for his side when he fired home on 19 minutes to open the scoring. Leads from the back to drive teammates on. (8/10)

Egor Filipenko: Having conceded six last time out, Les Leones simply did not put enough pressure on the BATE back line. Credit to Filipenko, though, because he stood strong when needed. (7/10)

Filip Mladenovic: The game lacked real width throughout, although the important thing is that the full-back helped plug the goals against. (7/10)

Midfield

Mikhail Gordeichuk: The hosts got the better of the midfield battle, although there was not a great deal of creativity in the middle if truth be told. (6/10)

Yevgeniy Yablonskiy: Again, the Belarusian outfit may have been the better side, but the game needed more cutting edge in the centre of the park. (6/10)

Aleksander Volodko: Showed some powerful running which his opposite numbers lacked at times this evening. (6/10)

Maksim Volodko: Managed to get away a snap-shot on goal following a quick throw, yet he probably should have buried his chance. (7/10)

Attack

Aleksander Karnitskiy: May have got a little lucky with his goal which took a deflection, although he proved a nuisance up until the point he was withdrawn. (8/10)

Nikolay Signevich: Arguably the best player on the field thanks to his tireless running. Could have taken his second-half opening with more composure, but first-half volley which struck the post was sublime. (9/10)

Substitutes

Vitali Radionov: No Borisov player has scored more thank Radionov's eight goals in the league so far this season, yet he had to make due with spot on the bench due to an injury problem. Had little impact when brought on, though. (6/10)

Edgar Olekhnovich: Brought on in the final seconds to help see out play. (5/10)

Andriy Yakovlev: Was introduced to bring fresh legs to proceedings, although the final 10 minutes were made up of sloppy fouls and breaks in play. (6/10)

ATHLETIC BILBAO

Goal

Gorka Iraizoz: Needed treatment early on and clearly failed to fully recover. Looked shaky with his distribution and was badly wrong-footed for BATE's second. (4/10)

Defence

Andoni Iraolo: Struggled to fully get into the game and was eventually withdrawn in place of a striker 10 minutes from time. (6/10)

Mikel San Jose: Cleared away a couple of loose balls in and around the box, but was caught out in possession in the first half in what could have proved a costly error. (6/10)

Aymeric Laporte: Grew frustrated as the game wore on and was eventually booked. Was just not his, or in fact any of his teammates', day. (6/10)

Mikel Balenziaga: Should have done far more to offer width out wide. Failed to help his side build from the back. (6/10)

Midfield

Benat: Managed to test the opposition keeper on a couple of occasions, which is pretty much more than any other Bilbao player could muster over the 90 minutes. (7/10)

Ander Iturraspe: His mis-hit shot on the hour mark summed his game up quite well. Vast improvement needed across the middle of the La Liga side. (6/10)

Mikel Rico: Struggled badly to get into the game and was subsequently withdrawn at the interval as his manager went in search of more ideas. (5/10)

Iker Muniain: The tricky attacking midfielder is supposed to be the spark of inspiration in this Bilbao side, but he was anything but this evening. Hit a few simple passes astray in the first half in particular. (6/10)

Attack

Aritz Aduriz: By no means a brilliant performance, but having been given next to no support, Aduriz took his only chance at the end of the first 45 minutes to give his side a lifeline. Now played a part in five of Bilbao's nine goals this season. (8/10)

Ibai Gomez: Another player to be withdrawn at the interval after failing to get into the game. (5/10)

Substitutes

Gaizka Toquero: For all of Bilbao's faults, Toquero had a good chance to level up the contest two minutes from time only to blast his effort over. (7/10)

Oscar de Marcos: Did little to improve the Lions when introduced at the interval with his side equally as poor. (6/10)

Marek Susaeta: Managed to produce a fine save out of Chernik in the second half, and provided just a little attacking spark during his time on the pitch. (7/10)
