Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has branded Tuesday's 1-0 win over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League "very important" in the context of Group D.
Saul Niguez's first-half strike proved enough for 2016 finalists Atletico to record all the points in a match that also saw PSV midfielder Andres Guardado miss a penalty.
Simeone says that Atletico "have a lot to improve on" as they prepare to face Bayern Munich in the second European match, but the Argentine was pleased with the victory in Eindhoven.
"It was a hard game, we knew they're a very good side and they played like they did at the Calderon. We got the goal but weren't able to finish off the game in the second period on the counter but the three points are very important," Simeone told UEFA.com.
"We now have Bayern at home, who have just won, but today I'll enjoy the side's effort. In the second period in particular it was a big effort. At the end they pushed on.
"We've played three games away this season and we're happy. It was a shame we couldn't finish on the break and we have a lot to improve upon, but we go home happy, above all win the win."
Atletico have been beaten by Real Madrid in two of the last three Champions League finals.
