How Atletico Madrid could line up against Real Madrid

Ahead of Saturday's Madrid derby at the Bernabeu, Sports Mole looks at how Atletico Madrid could line up against Real Madrid.

Atletico Madrid will be looking for their fourth straight win in all competitions when they travel to Real Madrid in La Liga on Saturday night.

Atletico made a shaky start to the 2018-19 campaign but have won their last three matches and will enter the Madrid derby off the back of a 3-0 win over Huesca on Tuesday night.

Diego Simeone's side are only two points off second-placed Real in the table, and have not lost on any of their last five visits to the Bernabeu in the league, recording three wins in the process.

Atletico have also already beaten their bitter rivals this season, running out 4-2 winners in the UEFA Super Cup last month.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Simeone's team could line up at the weekend.

Out: Stefan Savic (muscular)
Doubtful: Vitolo (knee)

Stefan Savic is Atletico's only certain absentee for the Madrid derby, meaning that Jose Gimenez will again line up alongside Diego Godin at the heart of the defence. Juanfran was left out of the clash with Huesca last time out, but the experienced full-back should return this weekend.

Simeone also has a call to make on the opposite side, with Filipe Luis and Lucas Hernandez battling for the left-back spot. Luis played against Huesca, but the latter - a World Cup winner with France - could be given the nod for this game.

A 4-4-2 formation is once again expected to see Thomas Lemar start in a wide position, while Koke could also move to one of the sides, allowing Saul Niguez and Thomas Partey to feature in the middle of the park.

Angel Correa is an option for Atletico, but the Argentine is expected to start on the bench alongside Rodri Hernandez.

Further forward, it will once again be Antoine Griezmann and Diego Costa in attack. Griezmann has two goals in six La Liga matches this term, but Costa is yet to get off the mark in Spain's top flight.

Atletico's front two will have certainly watched what Sevilla pair Andre Silva and Wissam Ben Yedder did to Real's defence on Wednesday night, and will be looking to pile more misery on the European champions this weekend.
