AC Milan loanee Alessio Cerci has admitted that he only has himself to blame having not been able to impress at parent club Atletico Madrid.
Midfielder Cerci recently joined the Serie A side after being unable to prick the interests of Atleti coach Diego Simeone, who gave the Italian only six substitute appearances during La Liga this season.
"When things go wrong, it's never the coach's fault," Cerci told reporters, according to Goal.com.
"It's the player's fault. I always made myself available, but I arrived on the last day of the transfer window and I wasn't in top condition.
"I tried to get back to top form as soon as possible, but when you're at a club where things are going so well it's difficult to displace players. I blame myself, I tried to change the coach's mind, but I didn't succeed."
Cerci's loan deal also saw Fernando Torres move back to the Vicente Calderon for a temporary period until the end of the season.
