Atletico Madrid defender Miranda has revealed that he was once contacted by the Spanish Football Federation about the possibility of playing for Spain.
Club teammate Diego Costa, who was born in Brazil, has opted to represent the current world and European champions as opposed to the South American nation of his birth.
However, Miranda has said that talks between him and the Spanish FA came to an end after they discovered that he had already represented Brazil on several occasions during 2009.
The 29-year old told ESPN Brazil: "It did happen, they sounded me out, wanted to know about my past but I am not able to play for Spain.
"I preferred to not even think about that, as I didn't want to create false expectations. There is nothing more happening at the moment and I'll keep doing my job."
Miranda has won seven caps for Brazil.
