Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has hinted that whether "club icon" Fernando Torres remains with the capital club beyond this season is up to the player himself.
Torres, 31, re-joined Atletico on an 18-month loan deal from AC Milan in January 2015, but as it stands, will return to his parent club at the end of the current season.
It is understood that the Spanish international is desperate to remain in Madrid and Cerezo said that "we'll see what he wants to do" when questioned on Torres's long-term future.
"He's an Atletico Madrid player and a club icon. When the season's over, we'll see what he wants to do. There are no problems with Torres," Cerezo told Radio Marca.
Torres has scored five times in 29 league games for Atletico during his second spell with the capital club.
