Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke has revealed that he wants to finish his career at Wanda Metropolitano.
The 31-year-old has been with Atletico since 2000, progressing through the various age groups at the club before making his first-team debut in 2009.
The Spain international has gone on to make 587 appearances for the Red and Whites in all competitions, scoring 47 goals and registering 111 assists in the process.
Koke was again a vital player for Diego Simeone's side during the 2022-23 campaign, making 42 appearances in all competitions, including 33 outings in Spain's top flight.
However, there has been speculation surrounding his long-term future with Atletico, as the Spaniard's contract at Wanda Metropolitano only has another 11 months left to run.
Koke has revealed that he has no desire to leave Atletico, with the midfielder planning to finish his career at the club providing that the circumstances are right.
"I've always said that I want to finish my career at Atletico. I will listen to the club (regarding contract talks), but my idea has always been to finish here," Koke told El Larguero.
The midfielder also opened up on Atletico's goals for the coming season, admitting that the Red and Whites are 'one step below' the top two Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Atletico finished third in Spain's top flight last season, one point behind second-placed Real Madrid and 11 behind the champions Barcelona.
"Obviously, the club's goal is always to qualify for the Champions League. It gives stability and helps us financially. We have to be demanding and want more, but also be realistic knowing that Real Madrid and Barcelona are one step above," he added.
Simeone's side last won the La Liga title in 2013-14, finishing top of the table on 90 points during that particular campaign.
Atletico have played two friendlies this summer, opening their preparations for the new season with a 2-1 victory over Manchester City before drawing 0-0 with Real Sociedad on Wednesday night.
The Red and Whites will now round off their pre-season with a clash against Sevilla on Saturday before beginning their 2023-24 La Liga campaign at home to Granada on August 14. body check tags ::
