Atletico Madrid defender Javi Manquillo has moved to the brink of signing for Newcastle United.
The 23-year-old has been contracted to the Spanish giants since 2012, but he has only made nine appearances for the club in all competitions.
During the most recent campaign, he played 20 times for Sunderland in the Premier League and according to Sky Sports News, he will spend another year in England.
It has been claimed that the left-back is undergoing a medical at Newcastle's training camp in Dublin and should he pass that, an announcement on the transfer is expected shortly afterwards.
Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has found himself frustrated ahead of the club's return to the top flight, but Manquillo would represent his third acquisition of the summer.
Manquillo has also made a combined total of 56 appearances during loan spells with Liverpool and Marseille respectively.
