Newcastle United have reportedly moved closer to securing the signing of Atletico Madrid defender Jesus Gamez.
Earlier this week, it was claimed that the 31-year-old was due on Tyneside after being approached by Magpies boss Rafael Benitez, and it appears that he could become a Newcastle player sooner rather than later.
According to Sky Sports News, Gamez was scheduled to have a medical in the North-East on Thursday ahead of making the permanent switch to England.
Gamez has spent the last two seasons at the Vicente Calderon, making 30 starts and seven substitute appearances in all competitions.
If Newcastle can complete the transfer, it would follow the signings of Matz Sels, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle.
