Already-qualified Austria ended their Euro 2016 qualification campaign in style as they beat Liechtenstein 3-0 at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Group G this evening.
The Austrians took the lead after just 12 minutes in rather fortuitous fashion, as Marko Arnautovic got in the way of a clearance from Martin Buchel to shin an effort into the visitors' goal.
David Alaba sought to double the hosts' lead before the break as he broke forward to beat two visiting defenders, only to see his flashed effort fly just wide of the target.
Austria began the second period at great pace, and they soon moved 2-0 ahead when Daniel Kaufmann was robbed, leaving Martin Harnik to slip in Marc Janko who extended his side's advantage.
Janko looked to confirm his side's three points at the earliest opportunity and he soon returned to bag a brace in the 57th minute with a tidy finish from an Arnautovic cross on the left.
Harnik might have made it 4-0 before the end of the game, but he saw his effort hit the woodwork following Marcel Sabitzer's promising run from deep.
