How Juventus could line up against Barcelona

Sports Mole looks at how Juventus could line up for Wednesday's Champions League showdown against Barcelona at the Allianz Stadium.

Juventus welcome Barcelona to the Allianz Stadium on Wednesday night for one of the most glamorous fixtures of this season's Champions League group stage.

New manager Andrea Pirlo is still unbeaten since taking over, including a 2-0 away victory over Dynamo Kiev on matchday one, although both the team's results and performances have seen early question marks raised over the club legend.

The Italian champions are out for revenge against a Barcelona side that beat them in the 2015 final of this competition, and they will fancy their chances given the form their visitors arrive in.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the hosts could line up in Turin.

Out: Alex Sandro (thigh), Cristiano Ronaldo (coronavirus)
Doubtful: Giorgio Chiellini (thigh), Matthijs De Ligt (shoulder)

When Juventus were drawn alongside Barcelona in Group G of the competition, anticipation quickly grew over the first meeting between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi since the former left Real Madrid for Juve.

However, they will have to wait for that after Ronaldo returned another positive coronavirus test 24 hours before kickoff, meaning that he will be unable to feature against his perennial rival.

Pirlo has hinted that once Ronaldo is back he will switch to a front three including Alvaro Morata, who scored both goals on matchday one, and Paulo Dybala, who has been out of favour at the start of this season but was restored to the starting lineup at the weekend.

Given Ronaldo is absent again, Pirlo will likely stick with a 3-5-2 system for now, although his defensive options have been hit hard by injuries.

Giorgio Chiellini limped off against Dynamo Kiev on matchday one and remains a major doubt for this match, while Matthijs de Ligt and Alex Sandro are also injury concerns.

Arthur will be pushing to start against the club he left during the summer but may be forced to settle for a place on the bench if Pirlo opts to recall Rodrigo Bentancur.
