Barcelona have revealed that Sergi Roberto will undergo an operation on his injured thigh "in the coming days".
The 29-year-old has made 12 appearances for the Catalan giants during the 2021-22 campaign, contributing two goals and two assists in the process.
However, the Spain international has not featured for Barcelona since the end of October, missing his side's last six matches in all competitions through injury.
Barcelona have now revealed that Roberto will undergo surgery to address the issue, although it is unclear when the midfielder will be able to return to action.
"The first team player Sergi Roberto will under surgery in the coming days for the injury he sustained to his rectus femoris muscle in his right thigh," read a statement on Barcelona's official website.
"The procedure will be carried out by Dr. Lasse Lempainen in Turku, Finland under the supervision of the club's medical staff. When the surgery has been carried out, the club will issue a new press release."
Roberto has made 316 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions, but there is uncertainty surrounding his future, with the Spaniard's current deal due to expire next June. body check tags ::
