Barcelona will reportedly not play at Camp Nou during the 2023-24 campaign, with the famous stadium set to be developed in a project worth in excess of £1bn.

The Catalan giants have turned out at Camp Nou since 1957, but plans have allegedly now been approved to develop the ground and the surrounding facilities.

According to The Athletic, the Barcelona board approved the plan on Thursday, with the club expected to receive as much as £1.3bn from US investment firms Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan to fund the developments.

The report claim that an announcement is expected to arrive over the next 24 hours, with the La Liga giants moving to Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys for next season.

The 55,000-seater stadium was the home of Espanyol between 1997 and 2009, and it will now house Barcelona's home matches for the 2023-24 campaign.

The Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys was the main stadium for the 1992 Summer Olympics and 1992 Summer Paralympics, and it is the sixth-largest ground in Spain.

The Spanish national team have also used the stadium for eight internationals, with the last match taking place against Peru in February 2004.

Barcelona are preparing to resume their La Liga campaign this weekend, facing a trip to bottom-of-the-table Elche on Saturday afternoon.

Xavi's side opened up a 12-point lead at the top of the division before the international break by recording a 2-1 victory over second-placed Real Madrid in El Clasico.

Barcelona have already claimed silverware this season, winning the Spanish Super Cup in January, which proved to be Xavi's first trophy since returning to the club as head coach.

The Catalan giants are in pole position to win La Liga, while they lead Real Madrid 1-0 in the Copa del Rey semi-finals ahead of their second leg at Camp Nou next week.

Barcelona will be missing Pedri, Ousmane Dembele, Frenkie de Jong and Andreas Christensen through injury for the trip to Elche, while Raphinha is suspended.

Pedri, Dembele and Christensen will also be absent against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey, but there is a chance that De Jong could be back in the squad for that contest.

Meanwhile, Ronald Araujo has been named in the squad for Saturday's clash with the team at the bottom of the division after recovering from an adductor issue. body check tags ::
