Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen has admitted that he is desperate to contribute to the Catalan outfit next season.

The Belgian international was part of the celebrations on Sunday as Barca secured the La Liga title with a 1-0 win at Atletico Madrid.

However, Vermaelen has not played a single minute for the Spanish club this season, having arrived from Arsenal with a hamstring problem that he has struggled to overcome.

"Congrats to my teammates for winning the league yesterday. Hopefully I will be able to contribute more next year," Vermaelen tweeted.

It is thought that the defender could feature in Barcelona's final league game of the season against Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday.
