Barcelona are reportedly contemplating whether to launch a bid for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez.

While the precarious financial situation at Camp Nou has been well documented, the Catalan giants require new additions in various areas of the pitch.

According to Sport, Martinez has emerged as a potential addition for the La Liga outfit after impressing during his time at Ajax.

The 22-year-old is capable of playing in a number of defensive positions, including centre-back, where Barcelona need a long-term alternative to Gerard Pique.

Martinez, who has previously been linked with a future move to a bigger club, has two-and-a-half years left on his contract.

Barcelona are unlikely to put together any significant bids until the summer transfer window.
