Experienced defender Dani Alves will reportedly become Xavi's first signing as Barcelona boss.
The 38-year-old, who made 391 appearances for Barcelona between 2008 and 2016, is currently available on a free transfer, having left Brazilian outfit Sao Paulo in September.
A recent report claimed that the Catalan giants had ruled out bringing the right-back back to the club amid suggestions that Xavi was keen on a reunion with his former teammate.
However, according to Sport, Xavi has now been given the green light to sign Alves, with the Brazilian's leadership qualities being viewed as vital in a young Barcelona squad.
Sergino Dest is currently the only natural right-back at the club, although Oscar Mingueza and Sergi Roberto are both capable of operating in that area of the field.
Alves won six La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns during a hugely successful period at Barcelona, while he has lifted 43 trophies during his senior career.
