Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has revealed that he wants to have made a final decision on his future "around February".

The 34-year-old has again been an important player at club level during the 2022-23 campaign, making 16 appearances in all competitions, contributing one assist in the process.

Busquets's contract at Camp Nou is due to expire at the end of the season, though, and there has been widespread speculation surrounding his future.

The Spaniard is believed to be keen on a move to the MLS, but a recent report claimed that Barcelona boss Xavi is determined to keep him at the club for another season.

Busquets, speaking at a press conference at the 2022 World Cup, has confirmed that he has still not made a decision on his next move at club level.

"Not yet. I already said it in the summer and at the press conference against Switzerland in Zaragoza. Just like the World Cup, I haven't decided," Busquets told El Larguero.

"It's my last year, I know a lot has been said, but I've always spoken in the same way. I have nothing signed from one side or the other. We'll see how it goes, but around February or so I would like to be clear and decide."

Busquets has made 12 La Liga appearances for Barcelona this season, while he featured in four of the team's six matches in the group stage of the Champions League.

In total, the experienced midfielder has made 696 appearances for the Catalan giants in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and contributing 42 assists in the process.

Meanwhile, he has won eight La Liga titles, seven Copa del Rey crowns and three Champions League crowns during his time in the first team at Camp Nou.

Busquets has also started both of Spain's matches at the 2022 World Cup, and he played the full 90 minutes of the 1-1 draw with Germany last time out.

La Roja boss Luis Enrique recently said that the midfielder could also play at the finals of the 2026 competition, but Busquets has admitted that this tournament is likely to be his last on the world stage.

"I haven't decided on it, but it looks more like yes. I'm old enough and, despite having the coach's trust and feeling good and important, I'm closer to it being my last," he added.

"I want to enjoy this World Cup, but I'm not going to decide anything now or when the tournament ends."

Spain will finish their Group E campaign against Japan on Thursday, and the 2010 world champions need a point to ensure that they will progress to the knockout round of the competition. body check tags ::
