Real Betis defender Emerson has suggested that he does not expect to link up with Barcelona until 2021.

In January 2019, Betis and Barcelona combined to bring the right-back to Spain, with the Brazilian spending his early time in La Liga with the former.

However, despite suggestions that he could make the contracted switch to Barca sooner than planned, the 21-year-old insists that he intends on remaining at Betis until the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

Speaking to Radio Marca, Emerson said: "I can go to Barca in 2021, but until then I'm staying here with Betis.

"First I'll finish this season and then we will talk about my future, about what I do, but I have a contract with Betis, I'm happy at this club, very content, and I want to stay here.

"When the season ends, I will speak to my agent, but in principle, I will stay with Betis."

Emerson has made 31 appearances in all competitions during his time at Betis.
