Barcelona are reportedly eager to make amendments to the contract of Robert Lewandowski, providing that he stays at Camp Nou.

When the Catalan giants acquired the forward from Bayern Munich in 2022, the Poland international penned a four-year contract.

Committing to a deal that could rise to €50m was viewed to be a considerable risk for Barcelona at a time when they had well-documented financial issues.

Nevertheless, signing Lewandowski has proven to be value for money, the player contributing 57 goals and 17 assists from his 91 appearances in all competitions.

Despite the 35-year-old remaining a key part of the squad, reports are persisting that club officials are eager to cash in on the player this summer.

Lewandowski has since attempted to clarify his future, insisting he has no desire to depart the city with both he and his family settled.

Barcelona to act on contract development?

Ahead of the end of the season, Lewandowski has still not reached the midway point of his contract and it has been alleged that his terms could change for the better.

According to a report in Sport, Lewandowski's contract will be worth in the region of £26m per season from July onwards, a situation Barcelona could naturally do without.

The report claims that president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco have plans to meet Lewandowski's agent Pini Zahivi at some point this week to discuss the scenario.

Barcelona are hoping to re-negotiate the set terms in a bid to minimalise the financial hit it will take on their already-reduced wage cap.

Will Lewandowski accept a wage cut?

While the situation is a complex one for all concerned, the chances are that a resolution can be found to suit all parties.

Even though Barcelona are conscious of the money that they stand to lose by keeping Lewandowski at Camp Nou, they are aware of his importance to the group.

Meanwhile, Lewandowski will not benefit if he is not willing to help the club out when he is on such a lucrative deal, despite the issue being the fault of Barcelona's.

Lewandowski stands to receive an increase of between £3.5m and £5m, and he may have to at least sacrifice that in order for supporters to remain at ease with his stay, and for the club to use the funds elsewhere to try to close the gap on Real Madrid. body check tags ::
