Barcelona have reportedly been presented with the opportunity to trade Ansu Fati for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves.
While the Catalan giants are on the brink of reclaiming the La Liga title, they face the complicated task of getting their finances in order.
Barcelona will only be able to fulfil their plans to extend contracts and complete a number of free transfers if they make substantial cutbacks.
Earlier this week, it emerged that Fati was a high-profile name which had been placed on the transfer list, a consequence of not remaining as a star man under Xavi.
In response to those reports, father Bori Fati spoke to reporters to insist that the 20-year-old would not be departing Camp Nou during the next transfer window.
Nevertheless, according to Relevo, agent Mendes is ready to try to find a resolution that will benefit Barcelona and each of Fati and Neves.
The report claims that Wolves would be prepared to push forward with a proposal of at least €30m (£26.3m) plus Neves in order to secure the signature of Fati.
Such an arrangement would allow Barcelona to strengthen their options in midfield as well as make inroads into their deficits regarding FFP.
As it stands, though, the situation is complicated by Fati's desire to stay and Barcelona not viewing Neves as a priority signing.
Previous reports have indicated that Xavi does not necessarily believe that Neves would fit into his system, despite his reputation on the European scene.
Nevertheless, it is suggested that everything remains open with Barcelona needing to show priority to balancing their books as soon as possible.
President Joan Laporta is eager to finalise new deals for Alex Balde and Gavi, as well as allegedly sign the likes of Inigo Martinez and Ilkay Gundogan on free transfers.
A reunion with Lionel Messi is also on Laporta's list of priorities, although it remains to be seen whether that will become realistic ahead of 2023-24. body check tags ::
