Bastia coach Ghislain Printant has said that his side were "too nice" during Friday's 3-0 defeat at the hands of AS Monaco in Ligue 1.
Printant's side were eventually reduced to nine men as they fell foul to a brace from Anthony Martial and a solitary effort from Matheus Carvalho at the Stade Louis II.
"It was a difficult evening for Bastia. I have to congratulate Monaco, who were able to deprive us of possession and were much better than us," said the coach, according to the official Ligue 1 website.
"I think we were too nice, we were partners not opponents. We stood off them a lot. We lacked aggression, even if we finished with nine men. It's bizarre, but it's the reality. We didn't play like a team fighting to stay up.
"We had a promising first 15 minutes, but after that we totally switched off and conceded the first goal. After that, it became tough. Monaco did not have to dig deep to put us in difficulty."
Bastia currently hold 12th spot in the Ligue 1 standings, with 36 points from 29 games so far this season.
