Bayern Munich are reportedly working on a new contract for midfield lynchpin Leon Goretzka.
The 26-year-old has established himself as an integral cog in Hansi Flick's system, chipping in with seven goals and nine assists from 27 matches this term across all competitions.
Despite becoming a regular for Bayern over the past couple of seasons, Goretzka's existing deal with the Bavarian giants is set to expire at the end of the 2021-22 campaign, and a swap deal with Juventus for Rodrigo Bentancur has been mooted in recent days.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Bayern are indeed working to tie the former Schalke man down to a new deal, as he is a vital part of their plans for the future.
The Germany international has already made 107 appearances for the Bundesliga champions across all competitions, scoring 24 goals and assisting 27 more since arriving in the summer of 2018.
Goretzka started and scored in Germany's 3-0 win over Iceland in their opening game of World Cup qualification, and he also played the full 90 minutes in Sunday's 1-0 triumph over Romania, during which his Bayern teammate Serge Gnabry scored the decisive goal. body check tags ::
