Paris Saint-Germain defender Sergio Ramos, who is due to become a free agent this summer, insists that he will not think about a contract renewal until the summer.

Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Sergio Ramos has insisted that he is not currently thinking about a possible contract renewal at the Parc des Princes.

The former Real Madrid defender is running down the final few months of his existing deal and will be able to leave as a free agent this summer as things stand.

Ramos ended his 16-year spell at the Bernabeu to join the French champions in 2021, but his debut season was plagued by numerous injury problems.

However, the 36-year-old has established himself as a regular for Christophe Galtier in the current campaign, albeit while drawing criticism for some inconsistent showings.

It has been reported that PSG are unsure whether to hand Ramos a renewal, as the Ligue 1 holders are searching for "guarantees" over his performances.

Speaking to RMC Sport after Tuesday's 1-0 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich, Ramos affirmed that he was on the right path after a "very hard" first season, but any contract talks can wait until the end of the season.

"I live day by day. Last season was very hard - now I feel good both physically and mentally, that is the most important," Ramos said. "I don't think about the future. We will see this summer."

Tuesday's game marked Ramos's 44th game in a PSG shirt since his arrival two years ago, and the Spaniard has come up with four goals and one assist for Les Parisiens in that time.

Thirty-one of those appearances have come in the 2022-23 season, where Ramos has played every minute of his side's Champions League campaign so far, but they are now at a significant disadvantage heading into their second leg with Bayern.

In a carbon copy of the 2019-20 Champions League final, Kingsley Coman scored the only goal of the game against his old club, and the Bavarians survived a late red card to Benjamin Pavard to hold on for a slender win.

Ramos admitted that his side played "too defensive" in the first half as Bayern dominated possession, but he expects the team to be in a better place by the time the second leg rolls around on March 8.

"It was a hard-fought game. In the first half, we played too low; we were too defensive; it was a very difficult, very complicated match," the defender added.

"I am very disappointed for the supporters, but they were there. We will have to have more character on the return, more verticality. We want to win, to be the best possible, but that's football.

"Sometimes we play well; sometimes, we play badly. What matters is the end result. The more we play, the more experience we have. It's going to get better and better. But we have to stay united."

Galtier's side, who have now lost three successive games in all competitions, are next in action at home to Lille in Ligue 1 on Sunday night. body check tags ::
