Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier reportedly wants to leave the club before the summer transfer window closes in England on August 30.
Trippier joined the Magpies from Atletico Madrid in January 2022 and was a signing that signalled a significant change at the club shortly after the arrival of their Saudi-backed owners.
The 33-year-old, who turns 34 next month, has since played a central role in the club's rise, helping Newcastle secure a top-four finish in the 2022-23 Premier League last season and qualify for the Champions League.
Trippier, who has registered 21 assists in 92 appearances for Newcastle across all competition, was the subject of interest from Bayern Munich in January, but the Magpies refused to part ways with the defender midway through the season despite receiving a bid of around €15m (£12.8m).
In March, the England international admitted that it was "flattering" to learn of interest from Bayern, but felt that a transfer to Germany "wasn't the right thing" for him at the time.
Trippier 'wishes to explore fresh opportunities' away from Newcastle
After representing England at Euro 2024, Trippier has since returned to Newcastle where he was hoping to reclaim the right-back spot in Eddie Howe's side this season.
However, Trippier watched on as an unused substitute in Newcastle's opening-weekend victory over Southampton after Howe decided to select Valentino Livramento at right-back.
Newcastle's No.2 has also seen the captain's armband that he has worn for the majority of his time at St James' Park handed to teammate Bruno Guimaraes.
Trippier has just under two years remaining on his contract at Newcastle, but The Athletic reports that the defender wants to leave the club this summer before the transfer window closes in just over a weeks' time.
The report adds that Trippier wishes to explore fresh opportunities that will provide him with regular first-team football.
Who could sign Trippier before transfer deadline?
It is understood that Everton are among the clubs keen to sign Trippier and have already held 'initial conversations' with Newcastle to express their interest in bringing the Englishman to Merseyside on loan.
Trippier has previously worked under current Everton manager Sean Dyche during his time at former club Burnley between 2012 and 2015.
The Toffees allowed Ben Godfrey, who played regularly at right-back last season, to leave the club permanently earlier this summer, while 39-year-old Ashley Young, 35-year-old Seamus Coleman and 22-year-old Nathan Patterson - who is currently out injured - are the three current right-back options at Dyche's disposal.
It remains unknown as to whether Bayern will consider reigniting their interest in Trippier after trying to sign him eight months ago, while a move to the Saudi Pro League has also been mooted, but an agreement with any club is yet to materialise. body check tags ::
