Belgium have booked their place in the last 16 of the World Cup finals in Brazil after striker Divock Origi struck two minutes from time to secure a 1-0 win for his side against Russia.

Below, Sports Mole assesses how each player performed for their respective sides in the Group H fixture.

BELGIUM

Goal

Thibaut Courtois: Despite Russia creating 12 shots on goal, it was a quiet night for the Chelsea goalkeeper, who had just one decent save to make throughout the 90 minutes. (7/10)

Defence

Toby Alderweireld: After a positive start, the Atletico Madrid full-back became frustrated as the match wore on. (6/10)

Vincent Kompany: An assured performance that was aided by an improved showing from his centre-back partner. Showed an eagerness to drive his team on in search of a winner late in the game. (7/10)

Daniel van Buyten: The Bayern Munich defender looked shaky against Algeria, but this was much better from the veteran. Did enough to keep his place. (7/10)

Thomas Vermaelen: Started well but was forced off with an injury at the half-hour mark. (5/10)

Midfield

Alex Witsel: Provided a calming influence in front of the defence. His presence allows the rest of the midfield to push further forward. (7/10)

Kevin de Bruyne: A classy 90 minutes from the former Chelsea man. Made several bursts from midfield that had Russia on the back foot while his passing in the final third was immaculate. (8/10)

Marouane Fellaini: Couldn't follow up his previous display in this match, but was always a threat in and around the penalty area. (6/10)

Dries Mertens: The Napoli winger was the most dangerous player on the pitch during the first half, but faded badly before being replaced by Mirallas. (7/10)

Eden Hazard: Was always keen to get on the ball, but was soon crowded out. Finally managed to get away from his marker in the final minutes to provide the assist for Origi's goal. (7/10)

Attack

Romelu Lukaku: Another poor showing from Belgium's main attacking threat. Was replaced before the hour and is likely to find himself on the bench against South Korea. (5/10)

Substitutes

Jan Vertonghen: Was thrust into action earlier than expected after an injury to Vermaelen. Looked more composed than he did against Algeria. (6/10)

Divock Origi: Marked his second substitute appearance in the competition with his first international goal. The Lille forward is still developing but he has moved ahead of Lukaku in the pecking order. (7/10)

Kevin Mirallas: Replaced the tiring Mertens and immediately struck the post upon his arrival. Could provide a good option off the bench later in the tournament. (7/10)

RUSSIA

Goal

Igor Akinfeev: Enjoyed a more uneventful game after his error against South Korea. Had no chance with the goal. (6/10)

Defence

Aleksei Kozlov: Did well to stifle the threat of Hazard before being withdrawn after 62 minutes. (6/10)

Dmitri Kombarov: Struggled to deal with the pace of Mertens during the first half, but was able to make inroads in attacking areas when the Belgian tired after the break. (6/10)

Vasili Berezutski: Despite their lack of pace, Berezutski teams up well his CSKA Moscow teammate Ignashevich. Couldn't get himself in the way of Origi's shot that decided the match. (7/10)

Sergei Ignashevich: Performed well on his 100th appearance for his country. Unlucky to end up on the losing side. (7/10)

Midfield

Denis Glushakov: Positive display from the Spartak Moscow midfielder. Unlucky not to get on the scoresheet and should have had an assist to his name after providing the cross for Kokorin. (7/10)

Viktor Fayzulin: Drew a decent stop out of Courtois during the opening moments of the game and always provided an option in the final third. (7/10)

Aleksandr Samedov: Nothing spectacular from the 29-year-old but helped his team function well against the likes of De Bruyne and Witsel. (6/10)

Oleg Shatov: Created a chance for himself in the first half after a mazy run, but fired straight at Courtois. Faded after the break. (7/10)

Maksim Kanunnikov: Brought into the side to replace Yuri Zhirkov, but didn't make a huge impact. (6/10)

Attack

Aleksandr Kokorin: Didn't perform badly, but his night will be remembered for the missed header from six yards that would have given his side the lead. (6/10)

Substitutes

Andrey Yeshchenko: Replaced Kozlov just before the midway point of the second half. Missed with one 20-yard effort before failing to stop Hazard in the build up to the goal. (6/10)

Alan Dzagoev: Couldn't provide anything extra for his side at a time where they were looking to hold on to a point. (6/10)

Aleksandr Kerzhakov: Had no time to make an impact. (5/10)
