Blackburn Rovers are leading Birmingham City at half time thanks to a Matthew Kilgallon header.
The centre-back powered home Craig Conway's corner into the back of the net after just eight minutes in a first half with few clear-cut chances.
Birmingham, full of confidence after last weekend's win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, almost took the lead in the second minute as Diego Fabbrini shot from 25 yards, but his effort whistled narrowly over the bar.
Rovers also had an early chance, but Conway failed to keep his composure and blasted the ball straight at Darren Randolph when he cut in from the left-hand side.
Birmingham struggled to create any chances in the immediate aftermath of Kilgallon's goal, with two harmless efforts from David Cotterill the closest they came until Clayton Donaldson headed wide from close range.
