Birmingham City have eased their relegation worries in the Championship with a 2-0 win over Peterborough United thanks to strikes from Nikola Zigic and Chris Burke.
Birmingham had a bright start to the game and troubled Robert Olejnik early on as Zigic powered a header at goal from Paul Caddis's cross, but the keeper made a good save.
The home side came close to taking the lead but were denied by a double save from Jack Butland, who first stopped a powerful Tommy Rowe shot and then blocked the follow-up from Lee Tomlin.
These saves turned out to be crucial as the visitors took the lead through Zigic as he tapped in from close range after Olejnik could only parry Burke's powerful effort.
Peter Lovenkrands should have doubled Lee Clark's side's lead minutes after the break but he headed Chris Burke's pinpoint cross wide of the target.
Burke was running the show for Birmingham and got a deserved goal as he cut inside and unleashed a left-footed shot which took a deflection and looped over Olejnik into the net.
