Blackburn Rovers have reportedly been foiled in their attempt to appoint Gustavo Poyet as their new manager.
It has been claimed that Rovers have identified the former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur player as the ideal candidate to take over from Henning Berg, who was sacked last month.
However, Poyet's current club Brighton & Hove Albion would demand around £2m to release their manager - a sum that Rovers cannot afford, according to The Independent.
The report has also claimed that Rovers will turn their attention to Sean O'Driscoll, Peter Taylor and Port Vale manager Micky Adams if they fail to negotiate a deal for Poyet.
