Blackburn Rovers could release Vince Grella, Keith Andrews and Michel Salgado in an attempt to increase the wage budget at the club.
It is thought that Steve Kean may release the trio, who earn £100,000 a week between them, to reduce the club's payroll ahead of bringing in new faces.
Australian international Grella has had an injury-hit spell at the club while Andrews is on loan at Ipswich and not part of Kean's plans.
Veteran Salgado is also in the final months of his contract and could be offered a coaching role.
Blackburn travel to Sunderland in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, where a win could move them out of the bottom three.
