Former Blackburn Rovers striker Yakubu has insisted that money was not a factor in his joining Chinese side Guangzhou R&F.
Yakubu signed for his new club last month following Blackburn's relegation from the Premier League, following in the footsteps of Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, both of whom play for Shanghai Shenhua.
However, Yakubu insists that his move was motivated purely by Guangzhou R&F's ambition.
"After hearing the club's plans, I realised I had to join. Money wasn't a factor," said the Nigeria international.
"Since Anelka arrived, more and more top-flight players are coming to China, and our arrival can help improve the quality of the nation's football."
Yakubu scored 137 goals in 346 games for five clubs during his time in English football.
