Jose Riga: 'Troubled Karl Oyston relationship to blame for sacking'

Jose Riga declares that his time at Blackpool was doomed from the off due to a lack of money which came about as a result of bad communication with chairman Karl Oyston.

Former Blackpool manager Jose Riga has revealed that his sacking from the club last month came as a result of a breakdown in communication with chairman Karl Oyston.

The 57-year-old won just one of his 15 games in charge at Bloomfield Road, and was dismissed from his position with the Seasiders residing at the bottom of the Championship table.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Riga put his short stint in charge at Blackpool down to a lack of resources which came about as a result of his troubled relationship with Oyston.

"The first step was to give a list of players – the spine," he said. "I think the spine of a team is very important. With my staff I knew exactly what I wanted but he started having difficulties to answer to what I was asking.

"I was sure it going to be a very good mix but then you have to face reality and reality is money. You can avoid a lot of problems by good communication. We did not have good communication. He is very busy with all business. It was a big problem for me.

"When you start with only six players, you don't have any friendly games before the first game of the competition. You are not sure if you will even have a full squad for the game. Pre-season is very important because you can give the players the consistency in terms of physical load and you can work on all the aspects."

Blackpool, now under the management of Lee Clark, remain bottom of the Championship table with just seven points to their name.
