Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Blackpool and Swansea City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Blackpool will welcome Swansea City to Bloomfield Road for their mid-table Championship contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Tangerines have won four of their last five matches on home soil, while the Swans have failed to win in six of their last seven games on the road.

Match preview

After three Championship games without a win, Neil Critchley's Blackpool side have since secured successive league victories against Reading and Stoke City, with a narrow 1-0 success away at the latter last weekend.

An 86th-minute winner from Josh Bowler, his third goal in as many league appearances, helped the Tangerines claim their 13th win of the season and has seen them move up to 14th in the table.

Survival in their first season back in the second tier is all but secured with 24 points separating them from the bottom three, though their hopes of a late playoff push are questionable as they currently sit 11 points behind Luton Town in sixth with 11 games remaining.

Blackpool will be confident of success on Saturday as they are unbeaten in each of their last eight meetings with Swansea. They have also won nine of their 13 Championship games at Bloomfield Road this season – the Tangerines last won 10 home games in the second tier under Ian Holloway (13) back in 2011-12.

Swansea followed up three successive home wins against Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City and Coventry City with a heavy 5-1 defeat against Fulham at the Liberty Stadium last weekend.

It was a relatively even contest heading towards half time, but in the 42nd minute Ryan Manning was given his marching orders, following a late tackle on Harry Wilson, and from that moment on, the visitors took control of proceedings.

Aleksandar Mitrovic, Bobby Decordova-Reid and an own goal from Ben Cabango put Fulham three goals in front, before Joel Piroe pulled one back in the 75th minute, netting his 16th goal of the season. However, a brace from Neco Williams followed to condemn the Swans to their 14th league defeat of the campaign.

Swansea have now conceded at least three goals in the same game on 10 occasions in the Championship this season – only basement club Peterborough (13) have done so on more occasions.

Russell Martin's men are currently sitting 16th in the table, three points behind Saturday's opponents Blackpool, who they have beaten in just two of their last 16 league meetings, securing wins back in February 1995 and October 2005.

Team News

Blackpool still have a lengthy list of injuries with Richard Keogh, Luke Garbutt, Keshi Anderson, Grant Ward, James Husband, Sonny Carey, Matty Virtue and Chris Maxwell all on the sidelines.

Striker Jerry Yates will be looking to force his way back into the starting lineup ahead of either Gary Madine or Shayne Lavery, while Jordan Thorniley is set to continue at centre-back alongside Marvin Ekpiteta.

As for Swansea, Joel Latibeaudiere is the most likely candidate to replace the suspended Manning at left wing-back, with Cyrus Christie to continue on the opposite flank.

Borussia Monchengladbach loanee Hannas Wolf has missed the last two games due to personal reasons and it remains to be seen whether he will be available to play on Saturday.

Ever-present midfield duo Matt Grimes and Flynn Downes are set to retain their places in the first XI, while Jamie Patterson will likely provide support in attack for strikers Piroe and Michael Obafemi.

Blackpool possible starting lineup:
Grimshaw; Sterling, Ekpiteta, Thorniley, James; Bowler, Dougall, Stewart, Hamilton; Yates, Madine

Swansea City possible starting lineup:
Fisher; Cabango, Naughton, Bennett; Christie, Downes, Grimes, Latibeaudiere; Paterson; Piroe, Obafemi

We say: Blackpool 2-1 Swansea City

A 1-1 draw was played out between these two sides in November, and another closely-fought contest could be on the cards at Bloomfield Road this weekend.

Given Blackpool's decent home form in recent weeks and Swansea's poor away run, we are backing the hosts to claim all three points.
