Blackpool beat Reading 1-0 at Bloomfield Road thanks to a second-half goal from local boy Tom Barkhuizen.

Reading created the first chance of the game when Hal Robson-Kanu found space, but the striker shot wide.

Reading kept the ball well in the opening stages, but Blackpool were able to keep their shape without too many problems.

When Paul Ince's men got hold of the ball, great link-up play between Ricardo Fuller and Nathan Delfouneso saw the former Aston Villa man put an inviting ball across the box, only for his teammates not to follow up.

Blackpool continued to mount pressure and a great run and delivery from Jack Robinson looked to pick out Bobby Grant, although the ball was cleared away for a corner.

Angel Martinez grew into the game and almost carved open an opportunity for Blackpool when his ball picked out Neal Bishop, who was only able to head wide.

Reading provided a late surge in the first half and Royston Drenthe's free kick had to be palmed away by goalkeeper Matt Gilks, before Jem Karacan clipped an effort against the bar.

Blackpool took the lead when Barkhuizen worked himself into space and fired in to put his side 1-0 ahead in the second half.

Substitute Michael Chopra went close to doubling the lead soon after, but his acrobatic effort went just wide of the post.

Reading substitute Pavel Pogrebnyak should have brought the scores level but the striker headed over in the 88th minute, leaving Blackpool to close out the game and seal a hard-fought victory.
