Sports Mole previews Sunday's Primeira Liga clash between Boavista and Casa Pia, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Boavista will be looking to maintain their perfect record at the start of the new Primeira Liga season when they welcome Casa Pia to Estadio de Bessa Seculo XXI in Porto on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts have managed back-to-back wins to kick off 2023-24, while Casa Pia are sitting in the middle of the standings having won and lost in their first two matches.

Match preview

After two wins to start the new season, Boavista join Sporting Lisbon, Porto and Vitoria de Guimaraes as the only sides who are yet to drop points in the Primeira Liga.

A 3-2 success over Benfica on the opening day was a shock result, and Petit's men were able to take the momentum from such a brilliant victory into last weekend's clash at Portimonense.

Goals from Robert Bozenik, Tiago Morais and Ilija Vukotic helped fire Boavista to a 4-1 win at Estadio Municipal de Portimao, meaning they have now netted seven goals in their first two contests of the campaign.

With last season's 13-goal striker Yusupha Njie moving to the riches of the Qatari league, it was feared that Panteras would struggle offensively this term, but the arrival of former Feyenoord man Bozenik has started to ease those concerns considerably.

Casa Pia are back in the Primeira Liga after securing a 10th-placed finish last term, and supporters will be hoping this season will see their side push towards the upper echelons of the division.

The Geese are no longer the new boys in Portugal's top division, and they were not in the mood to help the newcomers on opening day, beating recently-promoted Farense 3-0 courtesy of goals from Clayton, Pablo and Saviour Godwin.

Clayton was on the scoresheet once again last time out, but the visit of Primeira Liga giants Sporting Lisbon resulted in a 2-1 loss, with attacking midfielder Paulinho bagging a brace for Ruben Amorin's men.

Casa Pia are undefeated in their three most recent matches against Sunday's opponents, although this same fixture in February ended in a goalless draw, which did little to excite either set of supporters in truth.

Team News

Boavista are currently light in their goalkeeping department, with Brazilian Cesar sidelined until next year due to a serious cruciate ligament injury.

The hosts are set to name an unchanged side from the one which demolished Portimonense last time out, meaning captain Sebastian Perez will partner Gaius Makouta in the middle of the park.

As for Casa Pia, attacker Kiki is expected to be out of action until next month because of a muscle injury - the 25-year-old has featured just once for the club since making the switch from second-tier side Leixoes in January.

New arrival Rafael Brito is yet to make his debut for the Geese after moving from Maritimo in June, with the midfielder another player who is recovering from a muscle strain.

Boavista possible starting lineup:
Goncalves; Malheiro, Awaziem, Ferreira, Onyemaechi; Perez, Makouta, Morais, Reisinho, Agra; Bozenik

Casa Pia possible starting lineup:
Batista; Varela, Fernandes, Zolotic; Larrazabal, Pablo, Beni, Lelo; Soma, Godwin, Clayton

We say: Boavista 2-1 Casa Pia

Boavista have started this Primeira Liga campaign impressively, and they will be confident of making it nine points from a possible nine this Sunday.

Casa Pia posed a threat against Sporting Lisbon last time out, but we believe the Geese will suffer back-to-back league defeats due to the attacking talents of Boavista.
