A rare goal from Marcos Alonso has given Bolton Wanderers a half-time lead over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
The Spaniard was preferred at left-back to new-signing Stephen Warnock, who joined the Trotters on loan from Aston Villa this week.
Alonso rewarded manager Owen Coyle for his loyalty by heading in Chris Eagles's 44th-minute corner to end Wednesday's stubborn resilience.
Bolton had dominated the action and could have opened the scoring sooner than they did.
Eagles himself nearly got on the scoresheet, but steered David N'Gog's cross just wide, while the Frenchman headed inches over the bar from Alonso's deflected shot.
Despite being on the back foot for much of the period, the hosts did come close prior to Alonso's effort when Rhys McCabe struck the post from long range.
